The magnitude in the infrared H band of the Johnson photometry system. The H-band filter has an effective wavelength of 1630 nm and a bandwidth of 280 nm. The importance of H (and the source of its name) is that it coincides with the minimum in the opacity of the H⁻ ion, which is an important source of opacity in the atmospheres of cool stars.
