One of the nine regions of Western Australia. It partially surrounds the Perth metropolitan area. Its population of 72,000 is widely distributed across 155,000 square km. The Wheatbelt includes a number of ecosystems. Different industries operate in the region, including pastoral farming of sheep, mining of gold and nickel, and various agricultural products.
