and founder of the Baden school of neo-Kantianism. A historian of philosophy, he is almost entirely remembered for the idiographic/nomothetic distinction. Works included Präludien, Ausfsätze und Reden zur Philosophie und ihrer Geschichte (Preludes and Conversations on Philosophy and its History, 1884), Lehrbuch der Geschichte der Philosophie (Textbook of the History of Philosophy, 1890) and Einleitung in die Philosophie (Introduction to Philosophy, 1914).
