An annual or perennial, herbaceous or woody plant in the genus Scabiosa (family Caprifoliaceae), related to honeysuckle. The inflorescence forms a head, variable in colour but most commonly pale blue, lilac, or cream. There are about 80 species native to Africa and Eurasia, some cultivated for ornament.
