A low-growing, perennial herb of the genus Saxifraga (family Saxifragaceae) with leaves that have incised margins and often form a rosette, and clusters of usually white single flowers or inflorescences. There are about 440 species found in temperate and sub-Arctic regions of the northern hemisphere. Some are cultivated for ornament.
