单词 gravitational force
释义
gravitational force

Mathematics
  • The force of attraction that exists between any two bodies, described by the inverse square law of gravitation. See also gravity.

Astronomy
  • The force of attraction, F, that exists between all bodies. For any two bodies, it is directly proportional to the product of the two masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them. The constant of proportionality is G, the universal gravitational constant. Expressed in mathematical form, F = Gm1m2/d2, where m1 and m2 are the two masses and d is their distance apart.

Space Exploration
  • One of the four fundamental forces of nature (see gravity), the other three being the electromagnetic force, the weak nuclear force, and the strong nuclear force. The gravitational force is the weakest of the four forces, but acts over great distances. The particle that is postulated as the carrier of the gravitational force is the graviton.
