A genus (Arum) of about 30 species of rhizomatous, perennial, monocot plants (family Araceae), native to Europe and North Africa with flowers borne in a spadix partly enclosed by a coloured spathe, and fruits that form a cluster of brightly coloured berries. All parts of the plant, including the berries, are poisonous.
2. The common name (arum lily) for Zantedeschia aethiopica, a rhizomatous, perennial monocot closely related to Arum, which is native to southern Africa and widely cultivated worldwide except for Antarctica as a garden ornamental.
