1. A domestic wiring system in which all the power outlets have their own individual fuses and in which the outlets are connected in parallel to a ring circuit, which starts and ends at a mains supply point.

2. An electric supply main that is closed upon itself, thus forming a ring. If a power station supplies the ring at one point only, there are two independent paths for the current to take. Therefore if a fault in the ring occurs the section with the fault can be repaired without disrupting the supply of electricity to all consumers.
