A pipe fitting at the end of a length of pipe that consists of flat disc or ring of metal used to attach another length of pipe which has an identical flange. The flanges are bolted together and a gasket is compressed between them. The flanges are attached to the pipe by welding or brazing. A blind flange or blank flange is a flange with no opening and used to close a pipe. Slip-on, weld neck, socket weld, and screwed flanges are types of flange to be found at the end of a length of pipe.
