A NASA spacecraft which investigated the relatively unexplored extreme-ultraviolet spectrum of the universe. EUVE was launched in June 1992 with a science payload consisting of three scanning telescopes and an extreme ultraviolet spectrometer/deep survey instrument. Besides mapping the ultraviolet sky, the mission made specific spectroscopic observations of targets suggested by scientists, investigated the emissions of stars, and studied the interstellar matter.
The payload was designed and built at the Space Sciences Laboratory at the University of California at Berkeley. The science operations were completed in January 2001 and the EUVE transmitters turned off in February. The spacecraft re-entered the atmosphere in January 2002.
