单词 coaxial cable
释义
coaxial cable

Physics
  • A cable consisting of a central conductor surrounded by an insulator, which is in turn contained in an earthed sheath of another conductor. The central conductor and the outer conductor are coaxial (i.e. have the same axis). They are used to transmit high-frequency signals as they produce no external fields and are not influenced by them.

Computer
  • A form of electric cable that consists of a single central conductor surrounded by and insulated from a concentric sheath usually fabricated from an interwoven fine wire mesh. One or more coaxial cables may be included in multicore cable to provide paths for high-frequency or other special signals. The physical dimensions of coax are usually arranged to present a particular characteristic impedance (50 ohms or 75 ohms) to electric signals. See also broadband coaxial systems, Ethernet.

Internet
  • A cable which consists of a single copper conductor at its centre enclosed by an insulating layer and a metal shield and covered in a layer of plastic.

Electronics and Electrical Engineering
  • A cable formed from two or more coaxial cylindrical conductors insulated from each other. The outermost conductor is often earthed. Coaxial cables are frequently used to transmit high-frequency signals, as in television or radio, since they produce almost no external fields and are not significantly affected by them. A terminal to which a coaxial cable may be connected is a coaxial terminal.
