A genus of 14 species of arboreal, marsupial mammals, called possums in Australia and Tasmania and cuscuses elsewhere (family Phalangeridae), in which the innermost digit of each hind foot and in some species the first and second digits of the forefeet are opposable, and the second and third digits of the hind feet are united, and the tail is long and prehensile. They feed on leaves, flowers, and fruit, and inhabit the forests of Australia, Tasmania, New Guinea, and islands between Sulawesi and the Solomons.
