specializing in time series. Engle studied physics at Williams College (BS, 1964) and Cornell U (MS, 1966). At Cornell he switched to economics (PhD, 1969). In 1969 he joined the faculty at MIT moving to UCSD in 1977 and to NYU in 2000. He was elected to the AAAS in 1995 and to the NAS in 2005. Together with Granger, he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Economics in 2003.
