A device that emits, collects, or deflects electric charge carriers. It is usually in the form of a solid plate, a wire, or a grid that controls current into and out of an electrolyte, gas, vacuum, dielectric, or semiconductor. Liquid mercury electrodes are also used. The electrode current is the current that flows through a specified electrode, such as a collector, grid, or drain.
