The three dots that appear in finite sums and products such as 1 + 2 + ⋯ + n to represent the omitted terms or at the end of decimal representations, infinite series, infinite sequences, etc. to signify continuation ad infinitum.
Philosophy
An expression in which material essential to the meaning is omitted, but where the intended sense can be deduced or guessed from the context. An elliptical argument is called an enthymeme.
