A large area of the Pacific Ocean west of California that is used for US satellite launches and missile testing. All of the nation's polar satellites are launched there.
The range is operated by the US Air Force's 30th Range Squadron within its 30th Operational Group, and all launches are the responsibility of the 2nd Space Launch Squadron. The vast range begins at Vandenberg Air Force Base and extends westward over the ocean. It includes tracking systems along the Pacific Coast.
