That part of the light from the Sun’s corona that is due to emission lines from hot gas (the ‘E’ stands for emission). These emission lines include the so-called forbidden lines of highly ionized atoms of iron, calcium, and some other elements; they are the main way of determining the composition of this part of the solar atmosphere. The E corona is much fainter than the K and F coronae.
