Dunnett obtained his BS in mathematics and physics from McMaster U in 1942. He was then seconded to the English Royal Navy to work on the radar detection of submarines. After the war he returned to Canada, obtaining his MA from U Toronto in 1946. From 1953 to 1974 he worked as a statistician for the American Cyanamid Co, obtaining his PhD from U Aberdeen in 1960. In 1974 he returned to McMaster U, first as Professor of Biostatistics, then as Professor of Applied Mathematics. He was President of SSC in 1982 and was awarded the Society's Gold Medal in 1986.
