An attack on a computer network which relies on data that can be physically discovered rather than electronically discovered; for example, the theft and use of a password stored in a document held in an unlocked drawer. Such attacks are sometimes much easier to perpetrate than technological attacks such as key search attacks. Companies may have very sophisticated electronic anti-attack measures yet have very few physical security controls. See also white board attack.
