The liquid or vapour from the top of a distillation process that is rich in the more volatile component. Distillate fuel is a light group of oils extracted by crude oil distillation. They include diesel oil, light heating oil, and heavy gasoils that are used as a feedstock for other petrochemical products. Diesel oil is distilled at between 180°C and 380°C and used in diesel engines.
