A 4.3-m telescope owned and operated by Lowell Observatory, opened in 2015. It is used in the search for near-Earth objects and extrasolar planets, and for studying the Kuiper Belt, as well as for educational and broadcasting purposes. The DCT is sited at an altitude of 2360 m on a peak called Happy Jack in the Coconino National Forest, about 65 km southeast of Flagstaff, Arizona. It can switch from an ultra-wide-field (prime focus) mode for surveys to a longer focal length for spectroscopy and detailed imaging.
