A game bird (family Phasianidae) in which males are usually larger than females and have brighter plumage, a longer tail, and features such as wattles. They feed on seeds and insects. There are many species, originally native to Asia, the best known being the common pheasant (Phasianus colchicus), which is now naturalized in Europe.
