Ratio between deuterium (heavy hydrogen, 2H) and hydrogen (1H) in natural waters and other fluids, and in water combined in hydrous minerals. This ratio yields information about the origin and geologic history of the fluid, and about fluid/rock interactions. See also isotope fractionation.
