BPL (Broadband over Power Line)

A set of specifications for broadband communications over the

existing electrical power grid. BPL is based on power line carrier (PLC) technology developed in 1928 by AT&T Bell Telephone Laboratories, and which has been used since that time by the electric power utilities in select internal low speed data communications applications. Access BPL is a local loop technology that runs over medium voltage (MV) power lines in the power distribution networks. In-house BPL is a data communications transmission technology that allows a device to connect to a local area network (LAN) directly through the low voltage (LV) electric grid inside the premises.
