beta Referring to a product (usually a software product) that is ready for pre-release testing by selected customers in real-world situations prior to general release. A beta product generally has completed alpha testing, which is conducted by in-house customers or under laboratory conditions. A beta product generally is considered to be stable and to include all features and functionality intended for the initial general release. See also alpha and general release. |
