vector quantization A lossy video compression technique that analyzes blocks of video pixels to deter- mine their vectors, or frequencies. Prior to transmission, the video codec consults a codebook that contains a number of standard abbreviated vector descriptions in the form of codewords.The codec selects the codeword that produces the lowest level of distortion and outputs that to the channel.
