value-added network (VAN) A network that offers a value-added service, i.e., services that alter the form, content, or nature of the information, thereby adding value to it. Packet-switched networks, and specifically X.25, were the first VANs. Specifically, X.25 added value through error correction. See also packet switch, value-added service, and X.25. |
