silicon dioxide (SiO )

Also known as silica, silicon dioxide is the oxide of silicon. Silicon dioxide is

found in a number of natural forms, including quartz. Quartz sand is used in food additives, silica gel (a des-iccant), and ceramics, and is the primary raw material used in the manufacture of glass optical fiber (GOF).
