modal dispersion

The dispersion, or spreading, of an optical pulse in multimode fiber (MMF) due to

the multiple modes, or paths, along which the signal components can propagate. Modal dispersion is a type of intersymbol interference (ISI). See pulse dispersion for more detail. See also dispersion, ISI, and MMF.
