Linux (Linus Unix) A UNIX-like computer operating system (OS) developed by Linus Torvalds, and numerous collaborators worldwide, that was designed to run on PCs powered by Intel processors. Linux is free, open source software that anyone can modify, although at one’s own risk. Many companies package the Linux kernel with a number of utilities and other programs into commercial versions that include documentation and support.
