L tor. Inductive reactance is an inertial reaction to changes in the electromagnetic field created when an alternating voltage is applied. When AC passes through a component that contains reactance, energy is alternately stored in and released from a magnetic field or electric field. In the case of magnetic energy, the reactance is inductive. The greater the amount of inductance, the greater the inertial opposition. The faster the reversal of current, the greater the inertial opposition. Inductive reactance is measured in Ohms (Ω). See also capacitive reactance, inductance, and reactance. |
