DSU (Data Service Unit) A device that converts the unipolar signal received from data terminal equipment (DTE) into a bipolar signal required by a digital network. DSU functions variously include regeneration of digital signals, insertion of control signals, signal timing, and signal reformatting, although some of these functions can be ceded to either the channel service unit (CSU) or to the DTE. A CSU and DSU commonly are combined in a CSU/DSU, also known as a CDSU. See also CSU and DTE. |
