| 释义 | DLC (Digital Loop Carrier) A digital carrier system that serves to increase the efficiency of twisted pair local loop facilities by multiplexing voice grade channels over a single high speed facility. The Subscriber Line Carrier-96 (SLC-96) system introduced by Western Electric (now Alcatel-Lucent), for example, comprises up to four T1s from the central office (CO) to a remote neighborhood node. The node is a remote line shelf and time division multiplexer (TDM mux) that terminates the T1s, or one T2, from the CO on one side, and 96 voice grade analog circuits from individual customer premises on the other side. The SLC-96 DLC thereby supports 96 voice grade, two-wire local loops over four four-wire (i.e., four two-pair) circuits, which results in a savings of 88 pairs (96 – 8 = 88) from the CO to the node.
