单词 order statistics
释义
order statistics

Mathematics
  • Statistics which depend on their value for the place they occupy in an ordering of the data. So minimum, maximum, median, quartiles, and percentiles are all order statistics.

Statistics
  • Particular values in a data set that has been ordered by magnitude. The best-known statistics based on ordered values are the median and the range, which provide measures of location and spread. An example of naturally ordered data is provided by the lifetimes of failing light-bulbs, all initially new. See also normal scores; Q-Q plot; trimmed mean.

Computer
  • A branch of statistics that uses not the numerical value of an observation but its ranking relative to other observations. The rth order statistic of a sample of n observations is simply the rth smallest variate value in the sample. Examples of statistical tests for ordering include: the median test, the sign test, Cochran’s test, the Wald–Wolfowitz ‘runs test’, the Mann–Whitney test, the Wilcoxen test, the Kruskal–Wallis test, and the Friedman test.
