An organization established by the International Council of Scientific Unions in 1958 to continue the cooperative research programmes in space science begun during the International Geophysical Year and to exchange the resulting data. COSPAR has its headquarters in Paris, and holds scientific assemblies every two years. Its name is an acronym of Committee on Space Research.
