The government body responsible for administering UK competition policy from 1973 until 2014. It was responsible for maintaining the register of restrictive agreements, monitoring restrictive and anti-competitive practices, and regulating consumer credit. Upon its closure, some of its functions were transferred to the Competition and Markets Authority and the Financial Conduct Authority.
