The UK's largest university space physics institute, located at Holmbury St Mary, Surrey. It is part of the Department of Space and Climate Physics, University College London, with scientific research groups in astrophysics, solar physics, plasma physics, and climate physics. MSSL has designed and built instruments for some 40 spacecraft and 250 rockets. Its instruments have flown on missions including Cassini, Exosat, Röntgen Satellite, Rosetta, Solar and Heliospheric Laboratory, Spacelab, and XMM Newton. It was also involved in the atmospheric measurements of Mars Express.
