A small, omnivorous ground squirrel with pronounced longitudinal stripes on the head and body. There are 25 species in three genera, Tamias (T. striatus is the eastern chipmunk), Eutamias (E. sibiricus is the Siberian chipmunk), and Neotamias (23 species of western chipmunks). Apart from the Siberian chipmunk, all are native to North America.
