A change in the normal wavelength of absorption or emission of electromagnetic wavelength in a process in which there is a nuclear energy change (as in the Mössbauer effect and nuclear magnetic resonance) or a change in electron energy levels in the inner shells of an atom (as in X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy).
