‘Morphotectonics is a rather poorly defined term, but most geomorphologists would probably agree that it concerns causal linkages between topography and underlying tectonic or structural features within the crust’ (French (2006) PPG 30). Morphotectonic features may reveal recent seismic activity (Caputo et al. (2006) Terra Nova 18, 3); can provide an insight into past sediment flux to depositional basins (Jones et al. (2004) Terra Nova 16, 3); or illuminate drainage basin evolution (Ghassemi (2005) Basin Res. 17, 3). A. Scheidegger (2004) claims that morphotectonics is fundamental to the understanding of landscape evolutions.
