A large cat, 70–90 cm tall at the shoulder, native to the savannah grasslands of Africa and a part of Iran, that has a long, lean body, a small, round head, a spotted coat, and black streaks on the face. It is the only cat that cannot retract its claws. It is active mainly by day and is renowned for its speed over a short distance when running down prey.
