单词 Wigner’s rule
释义
Wigner’s rule

Physics
  • A result concerning the quantum statistics of systems with more than one fermion. If there are N fermions in the system and N is odd, then the total system is a fermion; but if N is even, the total system is a boson. Wigner’s rule is named after Eugene Wigner, who discovered it in 1929. It was rediscovered independently by Paul Ehrenfest and Robert Oppenheimer in 1931.

Chemistry
  • A rule describing a system, such as a nucleus, with N fermions. If the value of N is even, then the system is a boson; while if N is odd, the system is a fermion. This rule was discovered by Eugene Wigner in 1929 and independently rediscovered by Paul Ehrenfest and Robert Oppenheimer in 1931. Evidence for the rule comes from the effects of nuclei on molecular spectra.
