Two Soviet multi-man spacecraft modified from the single-seat Vostok. The Vostok ejector seat was removed to make room for two or three cosmonauts, but the overall size of the craft was the same. Voskhod 1, launched on 12 October 1964, carried a crew of three on a day-long, 16-orbit flight. Voskhod 2, launched on 18 March 1965, carried only two cosmonauts. The space for the third was filled by an extendable airlock through which Aleksei Leonov crawled to make the first-ever space walk. Voskhod was launched by the same rocket as Vostok but with an upgraded second stage.
