A hill at or near the centre of a crater floor. Central peaks normally occur within impact craters of 15–120 km diameter, although this varies between different planets and satellites, and different terrain types. They are thought to be caused by rebound of the crater bottom immediately after formation. Central peaks can also occur within volcanic craters, but are comparatively rare.
