The monetary authority of Taiwan. From its establishment in Canton in 1924 until 2007 it was known as the Central Bank of China. The bank relocated to Taipei in 1949, and resumed its operations in 1961. It is responsible for promoting financial stability by monitoring and assessing risks, monitoring major payment systems, managing foreign exchange, issuing currency, and handling central government bonds and treasury bills in its role of the fiscal agent for the central government.
