The symbol which defines the position of the zone axis of a crystal with respect to the crystallographic reference axes of the mineral. It is enclosed in square brackets to indicate that it refers to a line and not a plane. It may be calculated from the Miller indices of any two faces in the zone, or determined by plotting the faces on a stereographic projection.
