单词 mole
释义
mole

Physics
  • Symbol mol. The SI unit of amount of substance. It is equal to the amount of substance that contains as many elementary units as there are atoms in 0.012 kg of carbon–12. The elementary units may be atoms, molecules, ions, radicals, electrons, etc., and must be specified. 1 mole of a compound has a mass equal to its relative molecular mass expressed in grams.

Science and Technology
  • 1. (mol) The international scientific unit for amount of substance, defined as the amount of a substance that contains as many elementary components (atoms, molecules, etc.) as there are atoms in 12 grams of carbon-12. That number, 6.022140857(74) × 1023, is known as the Avogadro constant.

    2. (melanocytic nevus) A benign skin tumour containing a concentration of the pigment melanin, giving it a dark colour.

    3. A small mammal that lives below ground in a system of tunnels that it excavates by means of short but powerful forelimbs with large paws, and that feeds on invertebrates, principally earthworms, that fall into its tunnels. There are about 40 species in 15 genera comprising the family Talpidae, found worldwide.

    4. (golden mole) A mammal that lives in tunnels below ground, and has no external ears, eyes covered by skin, forelimbs adapted for digging, and a coat with a metallic appearance, giving it its common name. There are 9 genera with 21 species forming the family Chrysochloridae, found only in Africa south of the equator. Golden moles evolved independently from the true moles (Talpidae) to which they are unrelated.

Chemistry
  • The SI unit of amount of substance.

Chemical Engineering
  • The amount of a substance that has many elementary entities as there are atoms in 0.012 kilograms of the isotope carbon-12, and corresponds to the amount of material in Avogadro’s constant or 6.023×1023. The number of moles of a particular species or element is its mass divided by its molar mass.

Biology
  • Symbol mol. The SI unit of amount of substance. It is equal to the amount of substance that contains as many elementary units as there are atoms in 0.012 kg of carbon–12. The elementary units may be atoms, molecules, ions, radicals, electrons, etc., and must be specified. 1 mole of a compound has a mass equal to its relative molecular mass expressed in grams.

Geology and Earth Sciences
  • The amount of a substance containing as many elementary units as there are carbon atoms in 12 g of carbon-12 (i.e. the Avogadro number). The elementary units by which the amount of substance is being measured may be atoms, molecules, ions, electrons, radicals, or any other expressly named constituent.
