A beautiful filamentary nebula which is part of the Cygnus Loop, a large supernova remnant. The brightest part of the Veil is designated NGC 6992–5; NGC 6960 and NGC 6979, to the west, are fainter parts of the same structure. The filaments are gas which has cooled from a supernova explosion some 5000 years ago. It is 1400 l.y. away.
