单词 mimesis
释义
mimesis

Geography
  • ‘The belief that we should strive to produce as accurate a reflection of the world as possible’ (J. Duncan and D. Ley 1993); ‘Less-than-conscious embodied practices; the subconscious inculcation of the specific “rules of the game” of a particular field’ (Holt (2008) PHG 32, 2). See Malmberg and Maskell (2002) Env. & Plan. A 34 on spatial clusters, spin-offs, and mimesis.

Philosophy
  • A key concept in Plato’s troubled relationship with artistic activity. The artist who produces imitations of things seems to be some kind of deceiver; at best concerned only to represent appearances and not reality itself (Republic, Bk. x). The artist is therefore a collaborator in eikasia: things are already imitations of their forms, and imitations of imitations take us a long way from knowledge. Plato did not assign the artist a significant role in taking us towards acquaintance with the form of beauty, or beauty itself.
