An anabatic wind that blows up-valley during the day in otherwise calm conditions, or a katabatic, down-valley, night wind. See alsomountain wind; ravine wind.
Geography
An anabatic air flow generated as a valley floor is heated by the sun, and the warm air moves upslope. Valley winds are at their strongest in valleys of a north–south orientation. (See Weigel et al. (2007) Boundary-Layer Met. 123, 1.)
